Command & Conquer: Red Alert was developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive in 1996 for MS-DOS and Windows 95, and later for the PlayStation. It is a prequel to the first Command & Conquer, set in a timeline where Albert Einstein removes Hitler from history and the Soviet Union invades Europe.

Players command Allied or Soviet forces through two campaigns joined by full-motion video, building bases, harvesting ore and fighting on land, sea and air. EA released it as freeware in 2008.
