OpenLoco is an open-source re-implementation of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, the 2004 transport tycoon game that followed Transport Tycoon and was built on the RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 engine. Like OpenTTD and OpenRCT2 before it, it aims to improve the game while keeping how it plays.

The original was written in x86 assembly. The OpenLoco team replaced it piece by piece and finished rewriting the whole game in C++ in December 2025. Their next goals are solid multiplayer and higher map and vehicle limits.

It needs the original game's files and plays its scenarios and saves.

## How to set it up

1. Download the portable zip for Windows, the macOS zip or the Linux AppImage, and unpack it.
2. Start OpenLoco and point it at your Locomotion install folder when it asks.
3. The macOS builds are not signed, so Gatekeeper may block them the first time: right-click the app and choose Open.
