OpenGothic is an open-source re-implementation of Gothic II: Night of the Raven, Piranha Bytes’ 2003 role-playing game. Its goal is a feature-complete game client that is compatible with the original game data and its mods, and runs well on today’s systems.

The original game has been replicated completely: both the main quest and the Night of the Raven addon can be finished. The renderer uses modern graphics features such as mesh shaders and ray tracing, so it is best on recent graphics cards.

Development is focused on Gothic II. The first Gothic also runs, but new features are not tested with it. Releases are marked as pre-releases.

How to Set It Up

  1. Install Gothic II: Night of the Raven if it isn’t already.
  2. Download OpenGothic for your system and extract it into a folder of your choice.
  3. Run Gothic2Notr. It finds Gothic II in the usual install folders; if not, start it with -g "<your Gothic II folder>".
