About the Game

Gothic was developed by Piranha Bytes and published by Shoebox for Windows in 2001. The nameless hero is thrown into the Valley of Mines, a prison colony sealed by a magical barrier, where camps of prisoners compete for power and ore.

It became known for its living world, where characters follow daily routines, and for a story that unfolds as the player joins one of the camps. It was particularly popular in Germany and Eastern Europe.
