Overview

Dethrace is a project to learn how Carmageddon, Stainless Software’s 1997 driving and mayhem game, works behind the scenes and to rebuild it so it runs natively on modern systems. It was made possible by debug symbols from an earlier internal build of the game, found on the Splat Pack expansion CD, which gave the names of the original functions and structures.
It ships with no game content: it plays the original game’s data, and also supports the freeware Carmageddon and Splat Pack demos. Settings and other game folders can be set in a dethrace.ini file, and it supports the GOG release’s CD music files.
How to Set It Up
- Download the build for your system.
- Copy Dethrace into the top-level Carmageddon folder, where the original
CARMA.EXEis. On Windows, keepSDL2.dllnext to it. - Run
dethrace. With aMUSICfolder ofTrack02.oggand so on (as in the GOG release), it plays the CD music.
