What you need: The files of Caesar III, version 1.0.1.0, from a CD or the GOG or Steam release.

Julius is a fully working open-source version of Caesar III, Impressions Games' 1998 city builder set in ancient Rome. Its goal is exactly the same game logic as the original, with the same look and feel: saves are fully compatible both ways, and even the original's gameplay bugs are kept.

What it changes is the experience around the rules: widescreen resolutions, windowed mode, many small interface improvements and support for the higher-quality MP3 music once offered by Sierra. For gameplay changes, such as roadblocks, there is its fork [Augustus](/microsoft/windows/games/caesar3/ports/augustus/).

## How to set it up

1. Download the build for your system.
2. Either copy Julius into your Caesar III folder, or run it from its own folder and point it at Caesar III when it asks. The game folder must be writable, as saves go there.
3. If Julius says your game is not patched, install the 1.0.1.0 update linked from the project's wiki.
