The Ancient Art of War is a real-time strategy game drawn from Sun Tzu. You lead squads of knights, archers and barbarians against famous generals of history, moving them across a map and zooming in when two armies meet. Terrain, supplies and squad formations all decide battles.

Dave and Barry Murry made it, and Brøderbund published it in 1984. It comes with a campaign editor.

## How to set it up

1. Install [DOSBox Staging](/microsoft/ms-dos/emulator/dosboxstaging/) or another DOS emulator.
2. Unzip the download into a folder of its own.
3. Start DOSBox Staging and type `mount c "<folder>\ancient_art_of_war_dos"`, where `<folder>` is where you unzipped the download, then `c:`.
4. Type `WAR.EXE` to start the game.
