Pirates! lets you live a whole career as a privateer in the 17th-century Caribbean. You sail between ports, trade, take ships in sword fights, sack towns, hunt for buried treasure and lost family, and court governors' daughters, until age forces you to retire.

Sid Meier designed it for MicroProse in 1987. The game asks a copy protection question about treasure fleets on start, and this download includes the answers.

## How to set it up

1. Install [DOSBox Staging](/microsoft/ms-dos/emulator/dosboxstaging/) or another DOS emulator.
2. Unzip the download into a folder of its own.
3. Start DOSBox Staging and type `mount c "<folder>\Pirates!"`, where `<folder>` is where you unzipped the download, then `c:`.
4. Type `PIR.EXE` to start the game.
