Dune II is the game that set the pattern for real-time strategy. As House Atreides, Ordos or Harkonnen you harvest spice on Arrakis, build a base, train an army and drive the other houses off the planet, all in real time with the mouse.

Westwood released it in 1992. Its base building, resource gathering and unit control led straight to Command & Conquer and most of the strategy games that followed.

## How to set it up

1. Install [DOSBox Staging](/microsoft/ms-dos/emulator/dosboxstaging/) or another DOS emulator.
2. Unzip the download into a folder of its own.
3. Start DOSBox Staging and type `mount c "<folder>\Dune2"`, where `<folder>` is where you unzipped the download, then `c:`.
4. Type `DUNE2.EXE` to start the game.
