Doom, the Roguelike turns Doom into a turn-based dungeon crawl. A marine fights through Phobos and Deimos down to Hell, with the shotguns, chainsaws, imps and barons of the original, drawn in text characters. Levels are new each game and death is permanent.

Kornel Kisielewicz released it as freeware. This is the DOS version 0.9.8 from 2005, the first with sound.

How to set it up

  1. Install DOSBox Staging or another DOS emulator.

  3. The game needs CWSDPMI.EXE, a free DOS extender that many DOS games include. Copy it into the doomrl-dos-098 folder first.
  4. Start DOSBox Staging and type mount c "<folder>\doomrl-dos-098", where <folder> is where you unzipped the download, then c:.
  5. Type DOOMRL.EXE to start the game.
