Breakout! is a simple bat-and-ball game with rainbow-coloured rows of bricks to knock out.

It is an early game by Ken Silverman, who later wrote the Build engine behind Duke Nukem 3D.

How to set it up

  1. Install DOSBox Staging or another DOS emulator.
  2. Unzip the download into a folder of its own.
  3. Start DOSBox Staging and type mount c "<folder>\breakout", where <folder> is where you unzipped the download, then c:.
  4. Type BREAKOUT.EXE to start the game.
