DOSBox-X

DOSBox-X is an open source DOS emulator forked from DOSBox. It keeps compatibility with the DOS games DOSBox was built for, but aims to emulate a complete PC more accurately, covering everything from the original IBM PC to late 1990s hardware.

Unlike the original DOSBox, it officially supports running DOS-based Windows, including Windows 3.x, 95, 98 and Me. It also emulates the Japanese NEC PC-98 and DOS/V systems, supports 3dfx Voodoo graphics, and exposes a large number of options for tuning the virtual machine. The project is led by Jonathan Campbell and released under the GNU GPL.

DOSBox-X is actively developed with monthly releases for Windows, macOS and Linux. For playing DOS games with less configuration, DOSBox Staging is the simpler choice.
