Virtual Jaguar is a portable, open source Atari Jaguar emulator. For many years it was one of the best Jaguar emulators available, but it now sees little development.

Virtual Jaguar is based on the source code that David Raingeard released from his own Jaguar emulator, Potato Emulation. It also used Aaron Giles' work on MAME.

In particular, it used MAME's CoJag driver, combined with the Starscream 68000 emulator core.

Over the years the core has been rewritten several times by various developers. The current version uses a heavily customised version of UAE's 68000 core.

Virtual Jaguar emulates all the major parts of the Atari Jaguar to varying degrees and runs many games well, but its emulation is not complete. For the best compatibility, the closed source BigPEmu by Rich Whitehouse can run the entire retail Jaguar library.
