A7800

A7800 is an Atari 7800 emulator based on a fork of the MAME Atari 7800 driver. It keeps MAME’s configuration files and command line syntax, but adds a streamlined interface focused on the 7800 and many improvements to accuracy.

Among its changes are more accurate Maria DMA timing, fixes to the RIOT emulation, POKEY sound improvements and support for mid-scanline graphics register updates. It emulates a wide range of controllers, including ProLine and VCS joysticks, light guns, paddles, driving controllers, keypads, trak-balls and Amiga and ST mice, and supports cartridge formats such as bankset and XM. The BIOS is optional.

A7800 is released under the GNU GPL with 64-bit builds for Windows, macOS and Linux. Extra machine targets display DMA usage on each scanline, which is useful for homebrew development. Its latest release, version 5.2, came out in 2022.
