## What the site is
Emulation King is an archive of emulators and the projects around them: emulator plugins, homebrew games, PC ports of console games and texture packs. Everything is organised by company and then by console, so each system has one page with its background, its specifications and the emulators that run its games, and links to its PC ports and texture packs where it has them.

## Where the downloads come from
Most emulator and PC port downloads are collected automatically. A scraper checks each project's official source every day, such as its GitHub releases, its build server or its own website. When a new build appears, it copies it to the site's file host, files.emulationking.com, and adds it to the page. The build it replaces moves to the page's list of older builds.

Texture packs, homebrew games and the MS-DOS game collection are added by hand.

When a project is published on itch.io, its page sends people to the developer's itch.io page first, where downloading supports them. The copy on Emulation King is labelled as a backup mirror, and it is removed if the developer asks.

## What the site doesn't host
Emulation King doesn't host ROMs or disc images of commercial console games, or BIOS and firmware files. Emulators and PC ports need your own copy of the game, and a PC port's page says what it needs. Projects that bundle commercial ROMs, or are built from leaked source code, are not mirrored.

## Labels on download pages
- **AI use:** every PC port page says how much its developers used AI tools to make it. *Mostly AI-built* means the developers say AI wrote most of it. *AI-assisted* means they say they used AI, or the project's history shows AI-written commits or instructions for AI coding tools. *No AI* means they say they didn't use any. *Not stated* means they haven't said. The labels are checked again every week, and each one links its source where there is one.
- **Closed source:** the developer hasn't published the project's source code.

## Old projects stay
The site is an archive. When an emulator or port stops being developed, its page and its last builds stay, and where another project carries on its work, the page points to it and that project gets a page of its own next to it.

## Removal requests and contact
To ask for something to be taken down, see the [DMCA page](/dmca/), which says what a notice must include. For anything else, such as a broken download, a missing emulator or a business enquiry, see the [contact page](/contact/).
